We could all
remember Samsung first ever Galaxy smartwatch code named Samsung galaxy gear
that was released sometimes last year together with the Galaxy note 3. This
time around Samsung has just launched the Gear successor named Gear 2 ahead of
the Mobile World Congress event coming up in few days’ time.
The new
Samsung Galaxy gear 2 smartwatch comes in two variant, the gear 2 and the gear
2 neo which is for lower economy.
The most
surprising with this release is that as many would have expected Samsung to toe
the normal path of Android OS, they decided to turn another way round this time
around shunning Android OS on the new Galaxy smartwatches, but the new device
is powered on a new operating system called Tizen which is a Linux based OS that came about as a result of
Samsung partnership with Intel.
The new Gear
2 smartwatch features a 1.6 inches super AMOLED display with 4GB of internal
storage and 512 RAM. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor. It also
features accelerometer, an IrLED port capable of turning it into a universal
remote control. Unlike the first Galaxy Gear, this particular gear 2 has a
heart rate censor.
The Gear 2
has a 2MP camera mounted on the front, whereas the Gear 2 neo has no camera. It
can store and play music without being connected to any smartphone. The Gear 2
has a metallic face, while it variant the Gear 2 new has a plastic face, but
devices have been certified water and dust resistance.
Samsung has
just announced that both devices will be compatible with most of the Samsung
Galaxy smartphones. The two smartwatches will be available in different colours
ranges from charcoal black, Mocha grey, gold brown to wild orange. And the
smartwatches will be shipped to different part of the world by the beginning of
April this year.
